Brutal Planet

In 2000, Alice shatters this earth with “Brutal
Planet” one of his most hard hitting albums musically, lyrically,
and emotionally. Alice ask what scares us today in the 20th century.
Alice can’t do anything on stage that’ll make the audience
winch as he did in the 70’s and 80’s. What’s scarier
than Alice? Matter of fact what scares Alice? Not Marilyn Manson, Slipknot
or Rob Zombie. It’s as simple as turning on your TV. Alice says
watching CNN was scary. Seeing stories on the news that no one could
of made up was a shock to even Alice.
Brutal Planet is the first part of this conceptual trilogy. Set in a
post apocalyptic time on Earth a sort of Blade Runner and Road Warrior
genre. Alice musically goes into a heavy dark direction that is almost
industrial. I actually love this style Alice is doing on “Brutal
Planet” as he takes “the cadence of a goose-step, heavy
metal beat” you can actually smell the sulfur burning from this
planet of doom.
Produced by Bob Marlette, Executive Producer Bob Ezrin. Alice uses some
of his musicians he has toured with in the past like Ryan Roxie on guitar
and Kiss drummer Eric Singer along with other musicians China and Phil
X on guitars as well. Alice and Marlette collaborated on all the songs.
“Brutal Planet” Alice presents the question what if there
is an after life and you have to explain yourself?
there’s no parole there’s no great
escape
we’re sentenced here until the end of days and then my brother
there’s a price to pay
Alice gives a fire and brimstone approach as he points
out the errors of our ways.
We stoned the prophets, built idols out of mud
Right here we fed the lions Christian flesh and Christian blood
Down here is where we hung him upon an ugly cross
Over there we filled the ovens right here the holocaust
Alice wrote 2 songs that are Columbine related. “Blow
Me A Kiss” and “Wicked Young Man” gives you their
perspective.
I got a pocketful of bullets and a blueprint of
the school
I’m the devil’s little soldier I’m the devil’s
little tool
Alice also points out the scapegoats people blame saying it was listening
to Marilyn Manson or watching Natural Born Killers on video.
It’s not the games that I play, the movies
I see,
the music I dig, I’m just a wicked young man
“Sanctuary’ is one of my favorites on
this CD. It sort of reminds me of a Rollins song. It’s just a
person who escapes into his room.
It’s a castle of doom, I’m the king
of my room just a quasimodo
let the world go away this is where I will stay in my sanctuary
“Pick Up The Bones” actually came from
Alice watching CNN. He watches the destruction of villages in Kosovo
and notices a man carrying a pillowcase digging through smoldering rumble
to find anything from his family so he can bury them.
Collecting pieces of my family in an old pillow
case
This one has a skull, but it don’t have a face
These look like the arms of my father so strong
And the ring on this finger means my grandmother’s gone
There’s two thing you can always count on in
an Alice album. Either you have a ballad or one black humor track.
On this one we have both. “It’s The Little Things”
you can’t help but laugh particularly when we read interviews
on Alice they never fail to ask how he got the name Alice for the umpteen
time.
You can steal my car, drive into the lake
You can stick me in the oven and put it on bake
You can throw a big brick thru my window pane
But if I ever hear ya ask me how I got my name
I also like when Alice reminds of us of his past
songs as he notes
I’m on some thin ice, you push me too far
Welcome To My Nightmare, No More Mr. Nice Guy
Matter of fact Alice also does this in his self explained
title “Gimme”
which is the single from this CD.
Many may not recognize it but there is a line
That he refers to from “Nothing’s Free” on “The
Last Temptation” album.
I can make your dream come true, there is one thing
I mean everything has a price,
I really hate to repeat myself but Nothing’s Free
Ballad “Take It Like A Woman” is more
violent version of “Only Women Bleed”
What would happen if she still stayed with an abused man. This isn’t
a happy ending as it explains the serious issue.
“Cold Machines” starts off sounding like “Beautiful
People” by Marilyn Manson. This song and “Pessi-mystic”
are the only two songs that seem kind of weak.
But in a whole album scheme of things all the tracks fit
well in this conceptual album. It’s definitely a new direction
I like to see Alice go in.
Artwork: the design
of this CD is done by Kane Roberts, Alice’s alumni student from
the Alice Cooper University of Backing Band Members. Kane Roberts from
Alice’s “Constrictor” and “Raise Your Fist &
Yell” albums.
Getting into creating videos games has a company called Planetf/x Graphics.
The cover has half of Alice’s face off to the right side. Under
his eye are symbols. Inside are various pics of Alice that you can see
Kane was playing around with Photoshop. It also include the lyrics which
are very clearly readable which I like to see. Inside back cover is
a cool pic of Alice against a threatening sky. The back cover is another
pic of Alice
As well as the back cover of the CD which list the lyrics.

Brutal Planet Japanese Import
Comes with bonus track “Can’t Sleep Clowns
Will Kill Me” this title was taken either by The Simpson’s
animated series in which Bart is afraid to sleep cause his father made
him a scary head board of a clown face for his bed.
Other story is from a Stephen King novel “It” Now this all
depends on which interview you read. At first it was noted as taken
from “The Simpsons” I kind of think that’s where it
came from since Alice is known to have the tv on while writing songs.
After listening to it you can see why it was left off the album. It’s
a good song but it doesn’t fit with the total sound of “Brutal
Planet” Also it’s very Kink’s influenced as you can
pick up “You Really Got Me” in the intro.
Artwork: just like the
standard CD and booklet but also includes a smaller book in black &
white with Japanese writing. On the back cover of the b&w booklet
the back cover is the pic of Alice against the threaten sky photo. |

Brutal Planet Limited European Tour
Edition
This 2 CD came out after Alice’s Brutal Planet
tour. The first CD is the standard tracks.
The second CD is excellent. You have 4 live tracks from Brutal Planet
tour, “It’s The Little Things,” “Wicked Young
Man,” “Poison,” and cover “My Generation”
by The Who that Alice sings near the end of the concert. It’s
a shorter version which in concert Alice is singing “Billion Dollar
Babies” then goes into “My Generation.”
It also includes an audio “Total Rock Rockumentary” which
is about 40 minutes. It's an interview with Alice that is very good.
Plus an enhanced CD screensaver which are images of Alice. It shows
the cover of the CD and other pics that also in the CD booklet that
will appear on you computer monitor. I did download it but what happens
is if I’m watching a DVD on my computer the screensaver appears
until you move the mouse. So that didn't stay on my eMac for long. It’s
not good if you plan on watching DVDs on your computer.
Last is a video to play on your computer “It’s The Little
Things” that is a montage of live footage of Alice in concert.
Excellent angles and great collage of live footage.
Artwork: Same as the
standard book only comes in a blue box with a number at the bottom right

DragonTown
This was going to be part 2 of the trilogy but Alice
decided to end it at DragonTown saying once you're in Hell you can't
get out. Alice focuses in on DragonTown, a city that is a part of Brutal
Planet. It also may be considered as being in Hell. These songs are
not as conceptual as the previous CD.
Produced by the same Producer & Executive Producer with some of
the musicians from his “Brutal Planet’ tour.
I have to admit I was disappointed with this second part which took
some time to get adjusted to it. To me it sounds like songs that didn’t
make “Brutal Planet.” Alice was at the edge of a new sound
that I would of love to see him go further but unfortunately he back
peddled and played it close to the vest.
There a number of good songs from this CD. I would say 4 tracks I’m
not crazy about.
Alice spares no one from DragonTown. Some of the people he has in Dragontown
are Jim Morrison, Elvis, John Lennon and Alice includes himself.
The title song "DragonTown" has that Doors mystical sound
to it.
“Disgraceland” is the humorist song basically talking about
Elvis.
He finished his short life sweaty and bloated and
stoned
he ruled his domain as he died on the throne
Alice knew Paul McCartney is a big Elvis fan and
was recording in the next room of the studio. They visited each other's
studio & would listen to the others recordings.
Alice was going to ask Paul to sing the Elvis lines but shied away and
ended up recording it himself.
Alice impersonated Elvis way back in 1978 on his "Ubangi Stomp"
song from the "Lace & Whiskey" album.
As in "It’s Much Too Late" Alice gives his John Lennon
impression. At first I didn’t know why he was singing in that
voice style. Only later in interviews I knew it was Lennon.
The road to hell is littered with nice guys with
good intentions
but once you’re there, you’re there, it’s much too
late
One thing I should point out and that is white men
over 50 shouldn’t rap.
This goes for the 2 tracks ‘I Just Wanna Be God” and “Sister
Sara” it sort of reminds me of “Shockdance” from “The
Shocker” soundtrack.
“Every Woman Has A Name” which is the ballad for this album
just doesn’t make it for me. I like “Take It Like A Women”
much better.
As for “Somewhere In The Jungle” is another track that just
doesn’t fit in with this album or concept. I like the song but
it feels out of place.
“Fantasy Man” has some very funny lyrics. It comes from
a man who sits in front of the TV drinking beer.
I hate opera, I hate Oprah, don’t fill my
head with poetry
“The Sentinel” as Alice mentioned this
character isn’t from any religious sect as he writes…
I’m not a Buddha boy, a Muslim man, not a
Christian or a Jew,
I’m not a Mormon freak, I’m not a Catholic geek.
This was written before September 11th but gives
that eerie feeling
I’m wired here to blow,
there’s somethin’ disturbin’ goin’ on in my
turbin
I home, home on deranged
Artwork: Alice’s
face on the cover as he holds a sword blade in the center of his face.
The booklet unfolds in 6 panels instead of a booklet form. The lyrics
are written across the 3 panels which is very hard to read that long
of a stretch. Also the print is too small and is over printed on a background
image. The other panels have different images of Alice. The back of
the CD case shows the track list and a pick of Alice with a sword.

It's The Little Things |
DragonTown Special Edition
2 CD set with the 1 CD just as the standard version.
The 2nd CD include 4 tracks and 2 videos.
The tracks are “Clowns Will Eat Me” which is the bonus track
from “Brutal Planet” Japanese Import. They just edited the
title from “Can’t Sleep Clowns Will Eat Me.”
2 live tracks from “Brutal Planet” concert, “Go To
Hell” and “Ballad of Dwight Fry” both excellent tracks.
The last track is a “Brutal Planet” (remix) which is about
6 minutes long. It’s a very cool remix as it reminds me a little
of “Hands of Death” Alice sings with Rob Zombie on "Songs
In The Key of X - The X-Files" CD and a little of Peter Frampton
since they use that voice box Frampton made famous.
The 2 enhanced videos are “Gimme” and “It’s
The Little Things”
“Gimme” is an excellent video which Alice plays Pacino as
in the Devil’s Advocate. Alice present a contract stipulating
fame & money to 5 young men. As they sign it in their blood the
next scene you see them on stage as a boy band dancing while money is
falling down over them. Right at the end their heads explode.
“It’s The Little Things” is the same video as on the
“Brutal Planet Limited European Tour Edition.”
Artwork: Everything
is the same except that the CD comes in a white box cover with red reflective
writing. At the lower right is the edition number that is limited to

The Eyes Of Alice Cooper
Alice breaks from his moral concept albums and decides
to go back to basic. After a dismal response to "Brutal Planet"
(which I say is a great record) and "DragonTown" Alice decided
to change direction. Listening to the music that's coming back around
from the early Alice Cooper Group years. Bands such as White Stripes,
The Hives, The Strokes and The Vines has Alice yearning the years he
spent in Detroit. In the early 1970's playing clubs with Iggy Pop, MC5,
Ted Nugent to name a few has Alice making this a garage rock album.
This album was also written by the band members who toured with Alice
and are on this CD so it's an actual group effort. With guitarists Ryan
Roxie, Eric Dover, and bass Chuck Garric. KISS's stand in drummer Eric
Singer also plays on this album but wasn't involved in the writing of
it. This isn't a concept album and it has no moral or political themes
it's just rock n' roll. Alice noted it only took 3 weeks to record the
whole album and they did it as a live band. No separate vocals or instruments,
there is some minor overdubs that was placed in after the recordings
but majority is all for one. Produced by Mudrock who's known for his
production of Godsmack's album Alice tries to recapture his "Love
It To Death" style. But it's more like "Hey Stoopid"
sounding.
I have to say half of this album is good. Right away I
loved the first two tracks "What Do You Want From Me?" and
"Between High School & Old School" hit you right between
the eyes.
nobody wants me hanging around
unless it's from a tree in the middle of town
from "Between High School & Old School"
"Man of The Year" you spot the over 40 year
olds who appreciate the line
I pass the urine test, my prostate is a jewel
"Novocaine" and "Bye Bye, Baby" are
two garage rock songs. Some say "Bye Bye, Baby" would make
a good Stones song. It does have a little "Under My Wheels"
to it. Maybe it's the brass section.
"Be With You Awhile" is the ballad for this
album. As ballads go I say this one of the better ballads Alice wrote
in sometime.
"Detroit City" has that anthem song quality
I'm not that crazy about as Alice gives us a brief history of rock n
roll in Detroit. Alice has guest guitarist Wayne Kramer from MC5 on
this track. The only thing is he's not that pronounced. I wish they
gave Kramer a solo piece to show off his outstanding sound. He had an
opportunity to use a great guitarist and they blew it.
Me and Iggy were giggin' with Ziggy. And kickin' with
the MC5.
Ted and Seger were burin' with fever. And let the silver bullets fly.
Alice also gives mention of the bands that came out of
Detroit recently.
The Kid was in his crib, Shady wore a bib. And the Posse
wasn't even alive.
"Spirit Rebellious" reminds me of a stripped
down version of a Brutal Planet song. I know Alice had this song kicking
around for a while. It was going to be the title of one of his previous
albums. Anyway this is also an excellent track that kicks ass.
"This House Is Haunted" is one of Alice's horror
theme songs. It reminds me a little of "The Last Temptation"
and "Dada" albums. I like the vocal distortion giving Alice
that distance sound. Only thing is it doesn't seem to fit with the style
of the rest of this record.
"Love Should Never Feel Like This" is straight
forward sounding and "The Song That Didn't Rhyme" Alice with
his humor gives us a little 3 minute ditty on the making of this song.
a three minute waste of your time. No redeeming value
of any kind.
But thanks for the 12.99. On the song that didn't rhyme
Alice goes punk with "I'm So Angry" but this
track doesn't do it for me as well as the last track "Backyard
Brawl" which sounds like a jam session song.
Artwork: The cover
art comes with four versions. You have Alice's in Red, Green, Blue,
and Yellow eyes. Alice is wearing his "Spider"eye make up
from his '71 era. I guess since he's going back to his garage rock days
he slapped on the old school style mascara. This 16 page booklet comes
with legible lyrics and great photos of Alice. One pic has Alice in
his black derby hat from his School's Out days pre-Clockwork Orange.
The artwork along with the music is going back to "Love It To Death"
and "School's Out" era. The back cover of the booklet has
the whole band. Also on the back of the CD case with the title tracks
on the bottom you have Alice with his backing band. Matter of fact this
is the first time Alice showed his backing band. The last time was on
"Muscle Of Love" album in 1974 which was the last album with
the original Alice Cooper Group.
UK Vinyl Artwork: Limited
Edition of this record only available through imports. Alice gives the
UK another gift since he is well received and considers them his second
home. This vinyl is with a sticker that reads "Heavy Vinyl Pressings"
which it is heavier than normal vinyls. The artwork just like the CD
has Alice with the "Red" eyes, no 4 cover version. The back
is Alice and band from the back CD along with the track listings at
bottom. The record label on the vinyl itself is a black & white
picture of the cover. The inside sleeve is a heavy stock. One side includes
the lyrics and the bottom includes some of the pictures in the CD booklet. You
have photos from page 5, center spread 6&7, and page 1 in that order.
Also along the bottom reads the title of the album "The Eyes Of
Alice". Last name "Cooper" is on the other side which
has a full picture sleeve of Alice taken from CD booklet page 4. This
side includes all the credits.
The CD has 3 more photos that aren't on the lp. But it's been a long
time since I actually held a new lp in my hands and it felt good. I
wish vinyl comes back. The art shouldn't be put on a 5 by 5 inch material
that you have to squint to read any text. It should be proudly displayed
on a 12 by 12 inch cardboard.
As for the track orders it goes in the same sequence as the CD. Side
1 starts with 1. "What Do You Want From Me?" ends with 6.
"Be with You Awhile". Side 2 starts with 1. "Detroit
City" and ends with 7. "Backyard Brawl".

13. Stand (w/ Xzibit) |
Dirty Diamonds
Co-produced by Steve Lindsey (who has worked with
a number of artist from Leonard Cohen to Elton John) and LA guitarist,
writer, Rick Boston (Rickie Lee Jones),
This is also Alice’s first release from label New West Records.
From what I hear New West is trying to expand their music library.
Alice continues his garage band style such as the previous “Eyes
of Alice Cooper” CD.
I really wanted to like this CD. If you ever listen to Alice’s
albums he has an M.O. that is 1 ballad, 1 humorist song then the rest
some good rockin’ tunes. To me this reminds what if Weird Al Yankovic
made a serious rock album. I find a number of these songs being humorist
that tends to get tiring after a while. Out of the 12 tracks (not including
“Stand” the bonus track) I like about half.
‘Perfect’ is a good song about a girl who thinks she’s
real good singer, dancer, etc… but in actuality as Alice sings
“She’s so wonderful. In the
arena of her mind”
‘You Make Me Wanna’ is another good number that has that
Rolling Stone influence.
‘Six Hours’ starts w/ a bluesy guitar solo that it reminds
me of Gary Moore…to bad they couldn’t get him to actually
do this song it’s one of the best on this CD.
‘Your Own Worst Enemy’ starts off like The Who. A plus.
‘Zombie Dance’ is another one of my favorites as Alice plays
his harmonica on this only dark song.
This song also reminds me of The Stones. They even include some great
R&B background vocals.
As for the rest songs I have a hard time to like..I’ll just name
a few…
‘Pretty Ballerina’ originally written by a band called The
Left Banke who had a hit with “Walk Away Renee,” I don’t
know why Alice picked this song to cover. It does have that early garage
sound but I’m not crazy for the song itself.
‘The Saga of Jesse Jane’ is one of the funniest songs about
a truck driver who wears women clothes. This sort of reminds me of Stan
Ridgeway’s solo material. For those who wonder Stan Ridgeway was
the original vocalist of Wall of Voodoo.
‘Steal That Car’ is like a jam song just as previous CD
has ‘Backyard Brawl’ but ‘Steal That Car’ is
one of the weakest lyrics on this CD.
Now I have been reading good reviews about this CD. So I really wish
Alice the best. It’s good he’s getting positive results.
A lot are saying it’s a different sounding than Alice. Maybe that’s
what I don’t like it as much. If I wanted to hear White Stripes
or The Vines I’d buy their CDs.
I seem to expect more from Alice as a leader of Rock. I do enjoy the
days of ‘The Last Temptation’ album even think ‘Brutal
Planet’ was his last greatest material.
Before the CD came out there was talk about bonus
tracks, 'The Sharpest Pain' or 'Stand', will appear. 'Stand' was the
bonus track which was already on the 'Unity, the Official Athens 2004
Olympic Games Album'. This song included Rapper Xzibit. You read my
review here.
‘Dirty Diamonds’ is a good fun album if that’s your
music. I just don’t see myself playing this one that often. The
Dirty Diamonds band, I have to say they are one of the best backing
bands which includes long-time guitarist Ryan Roxie who’s one
of my fav performers. Guitarist Damon Johnson (Brother Cane), bassist
Chuck Garric, drummer Tommy Clufetos (who played live w/ Alice recently),
bassist Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent) and keyboardist Teddy Zigzag
(who’s been around as long as Ryan Roxie more or less w/ Alice).
Artwork: Sort
of like ‘Eyes Of Alice Cooper’ as they show a close up of
Alice’s eyes. This time Alice is wearing his later eye make up
not the spider eye make up he use to wear in the early 70’s or
in ‘EOAC’. Except Alice has Diamonds in his eyes on this
cover. The font sort of jagged is hard to read the title if you look
quickly at it. Also this CD is packaged in a cardboard cover so there
is no plastic involved except for were the CD is held.
As you open the inside cover is a pic of Alice looking into a diamond
framed mirror which you see his reflection staring at you.
The booklet cover also has another pic of Alice’s reflection from
the diamond framed mirror. Inside includes lyrics easy to read and song-by-song
credits, which is very informative. The inside booklet cover is b&w
pic of Alice w/ diamonds background.
The last 2 pages are 2 more b&w pics. One is a very cool pic of
Alice playing poker in an unbutton shirt & tie w/ make up. The setting
reminds me of a backroom in New Orleans which fits in to the song ‘Zombie
Dance’. Behind Alice is a woman; I believe it’s his daughter
Calico in a skull voodoo mask holding a stack full of money in one hand.
Alice is playing poker w/ a table full of money and 2 unseen poker players
cut out of the frame that only shows their hands on the table holding
cards.
The other pic is the backing band Ryan Roxie, Damon Johnson, Chuck Garric
and Eric Singer. Now even though Eric Singer didn’t contribute
in the recording of this CD since he was on the road w/ Kiss. Alice
considers Eric as one of his loyal members of the band since Eric toured
w/ Alice for quite a number of years.
The back cover of the booklet is a color pic of Alice in black holding
switchblades in each hand. Although his stance isn’t that menacing.
Reminds me of Jerry Lewis in the alleyway scene in his movie “The
Delicate Delinquent”.
The back cover of the CD has Alice standing off to the side w/ the lyrics
of the songs to his right. Better picture but I think his lipstick was
too red. |

Bonus Track: Sharpest Pain |
Sharpest Pain
bonus track from Dirty Diamonds

As you read my review above you know I wasn't that
impressed by the CD.
I do think this bonus track stands out better than a number of songs
from this CD. It still fits to the style of music from this recording
just a personal preference. |

2006
Soundtrack: Mankind
|
Mankind from
the Bloodrayne movie soundtrack
Ok so there was no offical soundtrack released but Alice creates a song
for this movie. It reminds me of Brutal Planet/Dragontown. After Alice
stopped this industrial style and released 2 garage band CDs I was excited
to hear this sound again.
I really like to see Alice do more w/ this style. Maybe get Trent Reznor
or Rob Zombie to produce one of his albums.

Along Came A
Spider
Alice goes to his conceptual side on this CD. It sort of “Welcome
To My Nightmare” style w/ “Eyes of Alice Cooper” or
“Dirty Diamonds” sound. This story is about a serial killer
named Spider who wraps his victims in silk taking 4 left legs and 4
right legs.
This story starts off w/ an intro of a women saying
"We found his diary today. He wrote in great
detail,
how cleverly he planned all of the killings.
How precisely he executed his insane fantasies.
It was all so perfect except for one thing..."
as the songs go on it’s through the eyes of Spider. “I Know
Where You Live” is Spider following his prey.
"I like to watch from my car
I want to make sure you don’t go far…”
“Vengeance Is Mine” has guest Slash on guitar. This sounds
like the single they are promoting.
“Wake The Dead” Ozzy Osbourne co-wrote. It does have a bit
of that Ozzy sound. They even say Ozzy played harmonica on this track.
There are no credits of Ozzy on this CD other than writing credits but
maybe a piece that small he didn’t want to be mentioned.
“Catch Me If You Can” is another great number as Spider
taunts the police and victims.
“..which limb will I chose
which one gets sawed in half
which leg would you lose
to an arachnophobic psychopath…”
‘Killed By Love” is the closest thing to a ballad. I love
Alice’s vocals on this number. I wish he had more verses on this
song.
Which takes me to “I’m Hungry” one of the weakest
songs on this CD. Sort of repetitive in the chorus that I wish they
had more words than just gimme gimme gimme…it sort of reminds
me of a Spinal Tap song.
“The One That Got Away” opens up w/ one of the best lines
of a song.
"You look like you’d fit in the
trunk of my car…”
Alice’s daughter Calico helps out in a talking scene as she plays
one of his preys that got away.
“Salavation” is the “Steven” track of this CD.
Alice does a good job in this song it could of came from “The
Last Temptation” lp. Asking if he had any chance of salvation.
I was surprised I didn’t hear a choir in the background.
“I Am The Spider” an excellent closing song w/ Alice using
his menacing vocals.
As the Epilogue Spider confesses
"Well, they found my diary today. They
were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims. They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk with one leg missing. Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
"We've been in this cell for 28 years Steven. We couldn't have
done all those horrible things. Yes, I know. I know what you always
say.
You trap, you kill, you eat. That's what a good spider does.
You trap, you kill, you eat.
You trap, you kill, you eat."
When I heard Alice mention Steven’s name it gave me chills.
Artwork: The artwork
is pretty cool. Designed by Piggy D who plays w/ Rob Zombie. The cover
shows a sinister profile of Alice w/ his enhanced spider make up that
is black make up, silver outline w/red eyelids sort of like the spider
blade that is created inside the CD book.
It opens in a tri-fold on the first panel is a small picture of Alice
as a kid w/ a fly on it. I know this is Alice because it was in his
bio “Alice, Me” and in his Welcome To My Nightmare tour
book. Also the first panel looks like a children’s school book
open. Title “Along Came A Spider” w/ illustration of a spider
w/ a skull head. On the booklet is red crayon label “Blood”
as the color. In crayon is a primitive drawing of a knife that the spider
is holding and the Spider blade icon. Under “This book belongs
to…” is scrawled the name Steven.
The middle panel is a metal w/ flies and splatter blood all over except
of an outline of the spider blade once laid.
Third panel that holds the CD is an open white line notebook w/ sketches
of the spider blade and notes to improve it. Also a picture of young
Alice again the same photo but this time someone drew Alice spider make
up on it & signed it “Steven” at the bottom.
The back side has a picture of Alice w/ the lines ‘You Trap You
Kill You Eat in what looks like a ransom letter someone would use to
disguise their handwriting. The back panel holds the song tacks w/a
photo of Alice holding a medical clamp w/ a fly trapped in it.
The booklet is also one of the best designs. It reminds me of each song
as a B Movie poster.
The cover of the CD booklet is actually the cover of the vinyl. That
is a photo of Alice reading you a bedtime story titled “Along
Came A Spider”
Each song lyric is in print and readable along w/ the credits. There
are some really cool pictures of Alice
Like the “Catch Me If You Can” page has an eerie mug shot
of Alice. ‘The One That Got Away” shows a close up of Alice
about to eat the fly trapped in the medical clamp.
The back page gives a salute to Welcome To My Nightmare as the subhead
reads above the title “The Horror that He Brings..The Horror Of
His Sting! The line taken right out of “The Black Widow”.

Vinyl Cover of
Along Came A Spider
(Same track listing as on CD) |
Vinyl Artwork: Limited
Edition of this vinyl. I just have to say I really miss vinyl especially
the artwork. This album comes w/ a sticker reading "Colored Vinyl"
I don't know how many variations of vinyl are released. My vinyl is clear
or a cream color if that';s what they were going for. The label itself
on the vinyl is the same art that is on the CD.
Photo on left is the cover of the album.
It was a thrill to open up this gatefold. The inside resembles metal w/
hinges at the fold of the album. On the blood splattered metal slab is
scattered of polaroids the photos that are in the CD booklet. Also the
open notebook and "The Spider Blade". The backcover is the photo
from the CD w/ Alice looking up w/out the "You Trap You Kill You
Eat". Instead it list the song titles along w/ the album title. What
I didn't notice on the CD photo since it's small is that there is a spider
on Alice's shoulder and drawings of spider eyes on the wall behind him.
The sleeve that holds the vinyl includes full size photo of the CD cover,
Alice's profile w/ his name & album title.
The other side are all the lyrics and credits. The background is faded
photo on the inside cover of the CD booklet that list the credits.
