Barry Richards TV Collection Vol. 1
Back in the early 70's in Washington D.C. was a low budget local showcalled "Turn-On" that up and coming musicians would appear. These shows would be on late Saturday nights at 11pm.
This package includes one DVD and one CD.
Volume 1, Alice Cooper performs 2 new songs from his new album "Love It To Death."
Alice performs his new single "Eighteen" and follows w/ "Black Juju" as a closing number during Alice's concert. This was one of Alice's most theatrical performances showing the electric chair and Alice swinging the flood light and tossing popcorn onto the studio audience.
This is good quality footage of the band performing. Glen Buxton get's some good camera time along w/ Dennis Dunaway. Neal is also seen behind Alice but poor Michael Bruce was out of frame a lot or lost behind the electric chair playing the organ during "Black Juju".
The booklet also includes some rare photos of the band performing as Alice is holding a Budweiser. Also a news clipping of Alice's appearance.
At the end of the DVD are "Audio Extra Interviews" which includes:
Alice Cooper on WEEL
The Bonus CD includes:
Alice Cooper concert ad 12/19/73 (1:02)
little over a minute radio ad of the Billion Dollar Babies tour.
Alice Cooper checks in with Barry on WHMC (1972) (3:02)
talks about his new "School's Out" album coming out soon.
Alice Cooper, Phlo and Eddie and Barry on WKTK (1973) (16:49)
A humorist opening Alice, Phlo and Eddie singing a song about local Jack's Roast Beef in Baltimore. They spin some tunes but are edited out. They are promoting Alice's new album "Billion Dollar Baby". Alice talks to callers and reads some commercial ads as loss of total control in the radio station.
There are quite few good bands to check out besides Alice Cooper such as Humble Pie w/ a young Peter Frampton. Also Bob Seger System I didn't even recognize him. Also liked The Byrds backing Fats Dominio was a good set. A very rare performances by 2 bands The Illusion and Crow who actually cover a very bluesy version of Everly Brothers "Gone Gone Gone" which isn't listed in the credits.
Reading the booklet they mention of Captain Beefheart performance I would love to see as well as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. I hope they plan on releasing Volume 2 soon.
