Good To See You Again,
Alice Cooper Reissued
Concert footage from Dallas and Houston, Texas in
1973. The original version has The Alice Cooper Group performing comedy
sketches between the concert footage. This was intended to be like The
Beatles "Hard Day's Night" but as Alice comments in the DVD
commentary "we're like The Psychedelic Monkees". There is
no actually story to the sketches as it falls apart. Later they edited
out the sketches and replaced it with old movie footage and a few pieces
of Alice of what looks like to be in an interview.
But enough of that. The best thing about this movie is showing the original
band performing on stage with all the theatrics.
As for the DVD version which includes extras. First you have the original
footage w/ the band skits inbetween the concert. Original Theatrical
Trailer and Radio Spots. Photo gallery w/ Original promotional material.
Band Biographies which is a brief bio of each member. You also have
the option to view the concert w/ the skits or w/out the skits. Plus
you have Alice's commentary version which is funny btw. Also an outtake
and an alternative version of "Unfinished Sweet".
There are some flecks, dust spots and at time it seems the editing wasn't
the greatest but it shows the original band at their height.
This is Alice at his raunchiness. You have to understand Alice was in
his mid 20's and a lot of the theatrics involved sex. Whether it's Alice
humping a manniquin, getting drilled by the dentist or stuffing anything
on stage down his crotch. You also have the Dancing Tooth played by
Cindy Smith, Dennis Dunaway's wife, Neal Smith's sister. The Amazing
Randi plays the Executioner and Dentist. As you all know The Amazing
Randi was the one who created the guillotine.
What I didn't know was during the scene of "I Love The Dead"
when Alice is secured in the Guillotine during that section Michael
Bruce was singing as Alice was lip syncing the words.
I wondered about that cause Alice didn't have the mic next to him.
This is a must if you are into the original band.
The Easter Eggs hidden code:
There are 4 different "easter eggs" on the DVD. 3 out of the
4 have no sound.
To find the "hidden" pieces of Alice Cooper film on the DVD,
go to the following
spots on your DVD menu:
1) Go to "Audio Menu" - navigate right from "Commentary"
link (Tombstone out-takes)
Shows different takes of the shovel smashing
the tombstone
also one take which the shovel gets caught in the tombstone but it doesn't
break.
Then a few shots of Alice's face as he is swinging the shovel at the
tombstone.
No sound.
2) Go to "Scenes / Songs Menu -- Page 1" - navigate left from
"Animal Road" link (Rat out-takes)
very brief...shows a hand placing a rat
on the Stone Head. No sound.
On a side note before this take they have
that clap board that reads "scene 1 or scene 2" etc...
well above it it reads the title of the movie as "Hard Hearted
Alice"
I know they said that was the title at onetime.
3) Go to "Scenes / Songs Menu -- Page 2" - navigate right
from
"Sick Thing" link (Graveyard / Corpse out-takes)
few takes of Alice's foot stepping on a
hand as it reaches out from the grave.
No sound.
4) Go to "Bonus Menu" -- -navigate left from "Deleted
Scene" link (Alice Cooper press conference scenes)r p
The only audio clip is from a press conference
which is
it's not really a whole interview it's mostly Alice's witty remarks
but you don't know what the questions are...

The Nightmare
Aired on TV in April 1975 this special included Vincent
Price (as "The Spirit of The Nightmare") who takes Alice (as
Steven) through his nightmare. This has much better acting than "Good
To See You Again, Alice Cooper" as it tells the whole story of "Welcome
To My Nightmare" album including all the songs. Plus classic "Ballad
of Dwight Fry" from "Love It To Death" album. There are
some alternative lyrics on "Devil's Food", "Cold Ethyl",
and "The Awakening" which are on the 2002 CD remastered from
Rhino label. |

Welcome To My Nightmare
Taken at Wembley Pool, London, England, this concert
footage from September 1975. I found this video through a rock magazine
but forget which one. I assume it must of been a British publication
if I had to guess it must of been "Kerrang!"
back in the days when they where a real metal magazine. I did find some
bad editing such as during the instrumental performance with Dick Wagner
and Steve Hunter but besides that this was an excellent concert. Also
it would be the beginning of Alice's solo career. You can see how he
expanded his stage show to more of a Broadway performance. In fact this
was directed, produced and choreographed by David Winters who played
The Jets gang member 'Action' in "West Side Story" a favorite
of Alice's. At the end of the movie it includes some footage of fans
outside the arena giving praise to Alice Cooper.

Welcome To My Nightmare (Reissued)

Re-released by Rhino it's the same as the above with
a few quarks. I notice they edited certain scenes such as during "Some
Folks" and bleeped out the word "hell" during "Department
of Youth" song. What I was told is that this may have been the
only film Rhino had to copy from this concert.
What I did like on the DVD version is the the commentary with Alice
and his assistant Brian Nelson as they walk you through the whole concert.
I found this very funny such as when the Cyclops comes out Alice injects
"If we came out with a kitchen sink we would still get the same
effect". Just pointing out they had everything in the show but
the kitchen sink.
The DVD also includes an interview with Alice Cooper.
I would suggest to get the DVD for the extras but see the old VHS for
the concert.

Alice Cooper and Friends

Filmed in Anaheim, Los Angeles, CA on June 1977.
This was Alice's bloated Elvis stage show. If you see him you can see
the alcohol abuse as he slurs some of his lyrics. This is the beginning
of 'King of The Silver Screen" tour in support of his "Lace
And Whiskey" album. Also Alice performing his new character Maurice
Escargot from the album. This isn't the whole concert as when this film
starts off the first song is "School's Out" and it's night
time. Then it shifts to the other bands performing then goes back to
Alice Cooper singing in the daylight on a few numbers before the sun
sets.
As for "..and Friends" this show includes performances by
Sha Na Na, Nazareth, and The Tubes.
I found this concert to be interesting due to the fact it's a rare chance
to some of the "King of The Silver Screen" tour and hear a
few songs from "Lace And Whiskey" album.

1978 |
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Well if you read my review of the soundtrack it pretty
much carries over to the movie. The only good part is Alice singing "Because"
and Aerosmith singing "Come Together". Other than that not much
to say but how can you make Beatle songs suck so much. |

Sextette
A musical film released in 1979. This film includes
Mae West last performance as she has a number of guest star musicians
like Alice, Ringo, Keith Moon. Then actors Timothy Dalton, Dom Deluise
and Tony Curtis. Pretty bad numbers through out the whole movie. Alice
comes in at the final scene of the movie as a Bell Hop who sits down behind
the piano and starts to sing "Next, Next" to Mae West. There
was talk that Alice was to sing another song titled "No Time For
Tears" but Mae West didn't think her character would be crying over
a man. So they opted for "Next, Next" which is very poppy sounding. |

1978 |
The Muppet Show
This comes with two episodes. The first one is with
Vincent Price which is very funny. Then again any Muppet episode is entertaining.
The second is with Alice Cooper as he performs three numbers "Welcome
To My Nightmare", "You & Me" and "School's Out"
as the final song. The Muppets fit very well into Alice's theatrics as
some of them looked to fit into his concert such as the "School's
Out" number. The sketches between the songs are very good as Alice
try's to get some of the Muppets to sign a contract with the devil. Very
humorous for the Halloween episode.
filmed July 1978 aired November 3, 1978. Released on VHS 1996. |
1979 |
Strange Case of Alice Cooper
April of 1979 at San Diego, Ca. Alice is performing
his "Mad House Rock" tour in promoting "From The Inside"
album. This Alice's clean and sober tour as he is released from detox
hospital and wrote a whole album on his experience with co-writer (of
Elton John) Bernie Taupin. Alice looks very
thin but is energetic as he runs around the stage. This is the beginning
of his vocal change as well. Don't know how to explain it but his vocals
are different compared listening to his other concerts. The theatrics
are just a good as quite a few props from "Welcome To My Nightmare"
reappear. Alice also uses the giant screen from that tour as well. Also
on a bootleg audio I have it includes two songs that are not on this
film. "Dead Babies" and unreleased "All Strapped Up"
which was only performed during the concert. This edit was due to time
constraints of the vhs.

1979 |
Roadie
Another bad film to sit through only to see Alice near
the end of the movie. This story is about Travis W. Redfish (Meatloaf)
who's a roadie. While Lola Bouillabaisse (Kaki
Hunter) comes along for the ride to meet her idol Alice Cooper. The title
inspired from "Road Rats" off "Lace and Whiskey" album.
Alice plays three but not full songs of "Pain", "Road Rats"
and "Only Women Bleed". Some other guest appear in this film
are Blondie, Roy Orbison, Hank Williams Jr to mention a few. |

1984 |
Monster Dog
B- horror film 1984 made in Torrelodones, Spain.
Alice is the only english speaking character in this film but the whole
movie is overdubbed for english even Alice. Supposedly Alice didn't
expect this film to be released in the States but it has seen the light
of day across the entire world. Originally titled Leviathan then came
to the States as Monster Dog.
Alice plays a rockstar w/ his band who visits his home after years of
being away along time. Alice is Monster Dog the werewolf with the plastic
mask that I guess production didn't pay any expense when looking for
costumes at their local drug store. It's very funny as in "Plan
Nine From Outer Space" way. I guess it's so bad it's good.
Alice also performs two songs written for the is movie. "Identity
Crisis" and "See Me In The Mirror" the latter song reminds
me of Gary Numen which I guess goes with Alice's New Wave albums at
the time "Special Forces".

The Nightmare Returns Reissued

First shown on MTV during Halloween night at Joe
Louis Arena, Detroit, MI in October 31, 1986. Alice drops the New Wave
and goes back into classic Alice with his new band and axe man Kane
Roberts the Rambo of Rock n' Roll. To promote
his new album "Constrictor" which uses a lot of influences
from the 80's splatter movies. The concert in it's entirety shows Alice's
new show which he also plays his classic hits. Some of the new theatrics
include Alice building a monster during "Teenage Frankenstein".
Alice skewers a cameraman (assistant Brian Nelson) with a microphone
stand during "Go To Hell". The appearance of Jason from the
"Friday The 13th" film. I really enjoyed this concert since
Alice was laying off the make up and theatrics in some time. Plus this
was a big return for Alice with a lot of promotion. The MTV version
which I first taped off TV shows a promo at the end of a janitor sweeping
up the stage which turns out to be Alice. The VHS leaves out the promo
of The Constrictor album.
As for the DVD reissued version it comes w/ bonus video
of "Teenage Frankenstein" which are clips from the concert.
The other is "Freedom" which is from the following album "Raise
Your Fist" again this video is taken from faux stage performance.
I believe this video is from "The Alice Cooper Story" DVD.

1987 |
Prince of Darkness
John Carpenter directed and produced this horror
movie giving Alice and Kane a cameo appearance. The story is taken in
an old church which these scientist are trying to figure out this cylinder
object in the basement that is filled with green goo. Supposedly it's
an evil presence that is taken over animals
and people. Alice and Kane play street people who are under it's spell.
They seem to act as zombies so no dialoged but Alice uses his stage
theatric of the slaying the cameraman. Only in this picture Alice takes
the front end frame of a bicycle and jams it through one of the scientist.
I believe the scientist was that geeky character who use to be on the
80's series "RipTide".

1989 |
Alice Cooper Trash Videos
Ok so I'm not that crazy about this album but I do
enjoy the videos so if you wondering how can I rate the video higher than
the album I guess it's the visual effect of watching Alice.
The three videos are "Poison", House of Fire" and "Bed
of Nails". |

1989/ DVD 2004 |
Alice Cooper Trashes The World
Promotion of Alice's "Trash" album I have
to say this is also a superb concert. I like the live version of the "Trash"
songs maybe it's the theatrics that keeps me amused as he sings them.
Alice brings back a few rare classic tunes we haven't heard in years like
"Desperado", "Gutter Cat vs The Jets", and "Muscle
of Love". Alice performs with another new band and I have to say
these guys give new light to the classic songs.
The DVD version doesn't give any extra footage. Only bonus is you have
a content to pick which song you like to hear or you can hit 'play' and
have the whole concert in it's entirety.
Performers: Al Pitrell i- Guitar, Pete Freezin' - Guitar, T-Bone Caradonna
- Bass, Derek Sherinian - Keyboards, Jonathan Mover - Drums |
